Ron Johnston
Ronald Johnston is a plein air painter from Cleveland, Ohio. He studied painting at the Cleveland Institute of Art, and at Cleveland State University, subsequently earning a Master of Fine Arts from Kent State.
Before devoting his time entirely to painting, Johnston taught at various schools and institutions, including the Cleveland Institute of Art and Cuyahoga Community College. He maintains a studio in Cleveland where he continues to give individual lessons in portrait and landscape painting. He is a master of the nude.
On occasion in the summer, Johnston paints landscapes in Maine. Working outdoors, his use of color is highly sensitive and accurate, and his finish fine. The body of Maine work is small but choice. He has painted the blueberry barrens, old quarries, autumn brooks. In several series he has painted the ledges, boulders, and rolling ocean swells at Pemaquid Point, a focus of his work, as has been the shore and clouds of Owls Head.
Johnston’s work can be found in numerous private collections, as well as the collections of major corporations, including Key Bank and the Cleveland Clinic. He also paints on commission in Europe.
