Gilbert Riou was born in France and lived much of his life in New Jersey. He received his MFA from City College of New York and taught at the Yard School of Art at the Montclair Art Museum. Riou spent several summers in Maine, depicting coastal scenes with a vivid sense of light and meticulous detail.
